Watch: Ondra goes into the Abyss for new first ascent

In a new documentary, Adam Ondra sets his sights on PĹ™ĂklepovĂ˝ Strop (8c+/5.14c), a historic aid line in the 138-meter-deep Macocha Abyss that many believed would never be freeclimbed.
It’s not the first time Ondra has visited the gorge, having climbed the upper walls when he was just 7 years old. This time, the Czech climber returns to the area to retrace the history of the mythical five-pitch line that leads from the depths of the cave. The first aid line was established by a group of climbers in 1986. Since that time, restrictions to protect the unique area have meant climbing is now permitted for just a handful of days each December, at night and on much of the original, almost 40-year-old protection. Facing a host of exceptional conditions, Ondra goes deep into the Abyss for what is widely considered the highest, longest and steepest overhang in the Czech Republic.
